  • Thelma's Kitchen is more than a meal program — it's a community gathering place rooted in dignity, welcome, and belonging. Located at 3101 Troost Ave in Kansas City, we serve hot meals and create space where neighbors connect across every line that usually divides us.
    Volunteers are at the heart of what makes Thelma's Kitchen run. Whether you're helping prep and serve food, welcoming guests at the door, or supporting behind the scenes, your time here makes a real difference — not just in what gets done, but in the kind of place we're building together.
    Thelma's Kitchen is also the training ground for our REVEAL Works Workforce Development program, where participants are building careers in the food service industry. When you volunteer here, you're part of something bigger than a single shift.
    Typical volunteer opportunities include meal prep and service, hospitality and guest welcome, facility support, and special events. Specific shifts and availability will be listed in the opportunities below.

In Support of Reconciliation Services
RS has served alongside our neighbors in the urban core of Kansas City, MO, for 30+ years. Desiring to accept the challenge to “love thy neighbor,” we approach each person with dignity and love, seeing them as made in the image of God. Our programs strategically address community needs for affordable food access, safe environments to gather to combat social isolation and build positive community connections, job training and educational support, and increased access to social and mental health services that lead to improved health and self-sufficiency.
